Artist Book: I’M ROOTED BUT I FLOW, 2025

HARDCORE CDMX Art Book Fair, Mexico City, 2025

Description

What does it mean to be rooted—and to flow? Can sculpture speak of the hands that shape it, the places that hold it, the labor that disappears behind the finished form?

I’M ROOTED BUT I FLOW is an artist book and book-as-exhibition that explores the tension between amplified sensory pleasure and its attendant costs. It traces moments of encounter between bodies, tools, and materials, moving across factory floors and exhibition spaces, between migrant workers and artists, between sensory intimacy and structural distance in China and the United States.

Through sculptures, photographs, drawings, and fragments of text, the book invites us to consider: Who is seen, and who remains unnamed? What kinds of bodies are allowed to appear—and under what conditions? How is value made and unmade in the process of making and showing?
